Echo Ho is a Beijing-born, Cologne-based sound artist and performer dedicated to interdisciplinary research and strategy at the intersections of art, philosophy and technology. She begins from the idea that art is not a form of representation, but a potent force that can change the structures that shape the world we live in today. Her work emphasises the transformative potential based on the unity of subjectivity and objectivity and engages in the process of the invention to break through the closed, predetermined cultural frameworks to strive for greater connectedness amidst the living environment on planet earth. Between 2011 and 2013 Ho was a Fellow at the Interdisciplinary Graduate School for Arts and Sciences at the Berlin University of the Arts. From 2007 to 2014 Ho worked as part of the artistic and scientific staff at The Academy of Media Arts in Cologne. Ho’s works have been performed or presented at the He Xiangning Art Museum Shenzhen, Center-A Vancouver, ISEA 2010 Germany, ZKM Karlsruhe, among others.
Ho's current PhD project, qintroNix, transfers the qin-specific teaching methodology into the context of post-digital lutherie design speculation (or maybe, design fiction). Qin is a Chinese seven-stringed instrument with a musical history spanning three millennia.
