Dr. Marco Donnarumma (*1984) is a postdoc researcher for the project Twist, Shift x Shake. He is an artist, stage director, inventor and theorist working with the body, sound and technology. His oeuvre, consisting of performances, installations and films, confronts normative body politics with uncompromising counter-narratives. He is best known for ritualistic body experiments that probe the fragility of human-machine integration. With an expertise in engineering, computing, and robotics, over the past fifteen years he has created machines that use AI, biosensors, and prosthetics to turn the body into a site of resistance and transformation. He has presented his work in thirty-eight countries and is the recipient of numerous accolades, notably the 1st Prize at Georgia Tech's Guthman Musical Instrument Competition 2012, Prix Ars Electronica's Award of Distinction in Sound Art 2017, the German Federal Ministry of Research and Education's Artist of the Science Year 2018, and a Hyundai ZER01NE Creator grant 2024. In 2026, he was one of ten finalists for the Falling Walls Foundation's Breakthrough of the Year in Art & Science.
His writings are published in ACM Transactions on Human-Computer Interaction, Frontiers in Computer Science, Computer Music Journal and Performance Research, among others.
