Guest Lecture: Stephanie Castonguay
Stephanie Castonguay is a sound artist, instrument tinkerer, and experimental music performer based in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal. Driven by an insatiable curiosity and a love of experimentation, Castonguay combines her DIY ethos with her background in visual arts and sound composition. Exploring the organic evolution of materiality, she deconstructs obsolete technologies to reveal their sonic and tactile qualities. She is known for her innovative approach characterized by DIY instrument-making, abstract turntablism, and modular synthesis. Their work has earned them residencies at organizations such as iii (NL), Avatar-MUTEK (CA), the Biosphère de Montréal (CA), and Klangmanifeste (AT), and they have presented their sound performances at numerous events, including LAB30 (DE), MUTEK (CA, PE), STEIM (NL), Festival Internacional De Arte Sonoro Tsonami (CL), Fluctuating Images & Errant Sound (DE), MANIFEST:IO (DE), Les Instants Chavirés (FR), BODEEK (BE), La Biennale Internationale du Son (FR), and IKLECTIK (UK).
