Guest Lecture: Luke Franzke

Tangible Music Lab

Luke Franzke is a creative technologist and lecturer at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). His work explores materiality, sensory qualities, creative coding, and intraoral interfaces, with a background spanning UI design, material research, and experimental interaction. He has developed biodegradable “Active Materials” that produce sound and light, as well as bespoke intraoral interfaces for therapeutic applications. His works have been exhibited internationally, and he has published numerous academic and scientific publications.

At ZHdK, Luke teaches creative coding, physical computing, human-robot interaction and multisensory design, and he currently leads the Experimental Interaction minor and the Physical Computing Lab. His research and publications focus on material interaction, electroactive polymers and multisensory interfaces, with a specific focus in his current PhD research on novel intraoral devices. Across his practice, Luke investigates how emerging materials and multimodal systems can expand the sensory diversity of interaction design.
